Alternative Character Interpretation : Since the violence was toned down in the cartoon, Max ended up becoming more of a good-natured Cloud Cuckoo Lander than the violence-crazed private eye that we know and love. That said, he's still pretty detached from what we traditionally consider "reality", even when he's allowed to be violent.
